Clinical Presentation: Work-up of an arteriovenous malformation(AVM) of the
proximal phalanx of the thirdfinger
Comment: The angiography or MRA is essential to confirm thediagnosis and
create a "roadmap" of the lesion. MR is suited forevaluating the extension of the lesion in
the soft tissue as wellas to adjacent bone. An increased density of vessels circulating
athigh velocities with the visualization of a "flow void" type imageis seen.
Description: The AVM is seen as a hypoechoic mass measuring 1.5 x0.5 cm on
the radial surface of the third finger. Severalserpiginous central lesions are noted. At CDFI
a proximal arterialpole is present with a high velocity arterial flow (low resistiveindices) and
a distal venous pole with arterialized venous flow. Noassociated bone lesion is seen. The
angiographic correlation isperfect; the lesion is supplied by an interdigitalartery.
