Grave's disease - Color Ultrasound
Title: Color Ultrasound - Grave's disease
Diagnosis: Grave's disease
Author: Dr.ROSSET Antoine
Comment: Dr. KHAN Haleem
Clinical Presentation: Grave's disease.
Comment: Grave's disease presents often as a diffuse abnormalitycharacterized
by hyperfunction of the thyroid. Sonography mayreveal an heterogenous echotexture or a
diffusely hypoechoic gland.CDFI reveals intense hypervascularity referred to as
"thyroidinferno". Spectral doppler reveals highly elevated peak systolicvelocities in the
superior and/or inferior thyroid arteries (>70cm/sec). According to literature, medical
treatment can bemonitored by CDFI with a decrease in velocities noted if it isefficient.
Description: The thyroid is globally enlarged and presents multiplenodules that are
predominantly hypoechoic. No cysts orcalcification are noted. CDFI shows intense
hypervasularity andspectral Doppler shows elevated peak systolic velocities in thesuperior
and inferior thyroid arteries.
