Title: Color Ultrasound - Hepatocarcinoma, cirrhosis
Diagnosis: Hepatocarcinoma, cirrhosis
Author: Dr.ROSSET Antoine
Comment: Dr. KHAN Haleem
Chapter: Liver & Spleen
Clinical Presentation: Routine workup in a cirrhoticpatient.
Comment: The widespread adoption of ultrasound for screeninghigh risk patients,
has led to the identification of many patientswith a potentially treatable hepatocellular
carcinoma. US is thescreening and surveillance modality of choice. The serum
AlphaFoeta Protein (AFP) is much less sensitive.
Description: The US study shows a 1.5 cm hypoechoic focal lesionthat displaces
but doesnt infiltrate the hepatic vein. The ColorDoppler US does not reveal any flow within
the mass and ahypovascular tumoral mass is suspected. CT and DSA confirm
thepresence of the hypovascular HCC.
