Parathyroid adenoma - Color Ultrasound
Title: Color Ultrasound - Parathyroid adenoma
Diagnosis: Parathyroid adenoma
Author: Dr.ROSSET Antoine
Comment: Dr. KHAN Haleem
Clinical Presentation: Patient with hypercalcemia and elevatedPTH
Comment: The vascularisation of parathyroid adenomas isvariable, but when the
lesions measures more than 2cm, thenhypervascularity is noted. This finding is not critical
fordiagnosis. The CDFI can avoid false positives due to tortuousarteries or the inferior
thyroid vessels (anteriorveins).
Description: The ultrasound scan reveals two extrathyroid solidmasses which are
hypoechoic. CDFI demonstrated peripheral andcentral hypervascularity with an arterial
waveform. On spectralanalysis these lesions were suggestive of parathyroid adenomas
inthe clinical setting and were confirmed surgically.
