Pulmonary embolism - Thoracic Imaging

Title: Thoracic Imaging - Pulmonary embolism
Diagnosis: Pulmonary embolism
Hospital: HUG
Department: Département de Radiologie
Date: 21.03.2003
: 3417
KeyWords: Dyspnea; embolism; thrombus
Anatomy: Thorax
Chapter: Pulmonary embolism
ACR: 6.721

Clinical Presentation: Sudden dyspnea and pain in the left basalarea. Tachypnea
and left basal hypoventilation onauscultation.
Comment: Spiral CT has become the preferred imaging modality forthe evaluation
of patients with suspected pulmonary embolism. Thishigh-performance technique is safe,
non invasive andfast.
Description: The frontal chest X-ray shows left lower lobeconsolidation with a
small pleural effusion. The CT image showsenlargement of the left lower lobe artery with
an endoluminaldefect and peripheral consolidation in the left posterior andlateral basal
segments.
