Comment: Schwannoma is a tumour of the peripheral nerves,arising from
intercostal, pneumogastric, phrenic and left recurrentnerves. Although they can be found
anywhere in the mediastinum,these tumours are predominantly located in the

vascular structures are visible through the opacity,indicating either an anterior or posterior
position. On the lateralX-ray, a round 4 cm mass is seen posteriorly, overlying the
